Jesper Tøffner is a self-taught cinematographer born in Denmark in 1978. He is a member of the DFF, The Danish Association of Cinematographers.
His first feature film ‘Applaus’ won the ‘Europa Cinemas Label’ at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2009. Two years later, he shot ‘Dirch’, the highest-grossing film in Denmark that year. This work earned him a nomination for Best Cinematography at the Danish Film Academy Award, Robert.
Tøffner went on to shoot Thomas Vinterberg's ‘Kollektivet’ (‘The Commune’), which was selected for competition for the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin Film Festival and earned him another nomination at the Danish Film Academy Award, Robert. He worked on the World War I drama ‘In Love and War’, a co-production between Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic and shot Ole Bornedal’s hit film ‘Så Længe Jeg Lever’ (‘The Way to Mandalay’).
Tøffner developed the cinematic concept for several TV series, among them ‘Heartless’ in 2014 and the fantasy-drama ‘Den Anden Verden’ (2016). In 2018, he developed the concept for the first Danish Netflix show ‘The Rain’ and shot the first four episodes. Tøffner has also been filming the Danish and German Co-produced TV-series ‘Sommerdahl’ and he has been shooting of the Danish series, 'Cold Hawaii'.
In 2022, Tøffners lastest international feature film, the historical action-drama ‘Medieval’, had its world premiers in Praque, starring Ben Forster, Sophie Lowe, Michael Caine among others. Also, he premieres with the film 'Danicing At The Royal Palaces', with HM The Queen, shot in one of The Queens residences, Amalienborg.
Currently, Jesper Tøffner just ended filming the new Danish comedy by Mikael Wulff, 'Højest Besynderlige Typer'.
