Jacob's wife Maja has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital with severe depression, and Jacob is now left alone with the responsibility of their young son Johannes and pressing deadlines at work. But he doesn't feel safe in the family's new house. Because when the daylight disappears, the shadows seem to take over and come to life. Ominous and unexplained sounds can be heard from the home's basement, and the many frightening experiences gradually make Jacob doubt what is real and what is pure fantasy. It doesn't help the eerie atmosphere that his son Johannes has slowly begun to change personality. And then he talks more and more to and about his new invisible friend, with whom he builds some strange dolmens in his room.
